Abstract

The Atlantic forest is a rich ecosystem in biodiversity and very threatened. Currently search intend to understand the patterns and processes that led to its biodiversity, as this biodiversity reacted to past environmental changes and how it will react to future environmental changes. Based on these questions, the project proposes a study of the vegetation dynamics with inferences to paleoclimatic fluctuations during the late Quaternary, for the native forest of Northeastern Espírito Santo state, a region considered as one of the endemics centers of the Atlantic forest. The approach proposed is interdisciplinary, with the use of stable C and N isotopes, C14 dating and bioindicators (pollen, diatoms and continental sponge spicules) in lake sediments and peat.
