Each year fires devastate large forests areas, grasslands and agricultural regions, consuming a large amount of biomass and releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These factors influence directly the climate and the environment, where the energy released by fire, the trace gases emitted to the atmosphere, the changing of the surface reflectance and the changes in the radiative balance of the atmosphere and in the hydrological cycle are the main modifying factors of the environment. Therefore, the objective of this project is create an inventory of the burned area for the Amazon region from multitemporal data of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor and analyze the main environmental impacts originated from the modification of physico-chemical and biological surface characteristics. From the assimilation of the changes caused by fires in the radiative transfer model in the range of the solar spectrum and the electromagnetic spectrum related to the thermal infrared coupled with an statistical-dynamic atmospheric model, will be analyzed the main local and regional impacts on climate and atmospheric circulation caused by the emission of particulate matter and trace gases into the atmosphere, as well as by changes in radiation balance and in the latent and sensible heat fluxes. Furthermore, it is expected to obtain annual inventories (2000 to 2012) of the burned area for the region of the Amazon rainforest, as well as to determine the main climate impacts from the changes in the land use and occupation caused mainly by the action of anthropogenic fires.
