Influence of green tea in post myocardial infarction remodeling

One of the mechanisms that explain, the development of myocardial infarction to heart failure, depend on remodeling process. Several biochemical changes happen during this process, such as oxidative stress that is associated to ventricular apoptosis, hypertrophy, fibrosis, and others. Green tea is one of the most consumed beverage in the world and its ingestion has been associated to cardiovascular and cancer benefits. Antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative and antithrombotic activities are examples of relevant green tea biological properties. So that, it's possible that green tea may attenuate remodeling process. The finality of this study is to investigate if green tea would attenuate ventricular remodeling after myocardial infarction. For this purpose, male Wistar rats will be studied divided in 4 groups: C -control; C-CV - control and green tea diet; IAM - control infracted rats; IAM-CV - infracted rats and green tea diet. After tree month, these animals will be studied with echocardiography, isolated heart study, morphometry, histology, biochemical dosages for cytokines and oxidative stress, zimography for metaloproteases activity and imunohistochemistry for caspase 3 detection.
