Recent studies performed by our group involving proteins from ABC transporter systems of the Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri, evidenced the presence of the cys regulon for Sulfur capture and assimilation, according to the Escherichia coli previous characterization. Despite of the great importance of X. axonopodis for the Brazilian economy, since it is the causative agent of citrus canker disease, there are few articles about its metabolism, specially those related to the ion or Sulfur assimilation. The identified proteins of the cys regulon in X. axonopodis form three ABC transporters, putatively responsible for sulfate, alkanesulfonate and taurine transporters, as well as, all the proteins involved in reduction of sulfate into sulfite. In this work, we intend to study the function and structure of the proteins involved in sulfate capture and assimilation, characterized by the ABC transporter SbpCysUWA and cytoplasmic enzymes necessary for its reduction (CysDNCHIJG).
