Abstract

Objectives: To analyze the results obtained in tests of auditory processing (central) in children with and without a history of otitis media in childhood, considering gender and age; classify the findings of tests of auditory processing (central) on the type of disorder. Methodology: we will be evaluated 80 children aged between 8 and 10 years old, males and females. Individuals will be divided into two groups: group I (GI) will consist of 40 children with a history of otitis media with effusion in the first five years of age who underwent surgery for placement of tympanostomy tubes, group II (GII) will consist of 40 children without history of otitis media. All children will be subjected to complete audiological evaluation (audiometry, speech audiometry and impedance) and auditory processing evaluation (dichotic digit test, dichotic non-verbal sentence, sentence identification with ipsilateral competing message (PSI), detection gaps in noise (GIN ) and pitch pattern sequence (PPS). Results: will be analyzed and categorized based on the results of auditory processing tests according Schochat, Pereira (2007) and Musiek (1990,2004). Conclusion: we expected to find abnormal results on auditory processing tests in GI compared with GII.
