Abstract This research aims at studying the representation of Love/Cupid/Eros in roman poetry, more specifically, in Catulus, Propertius, Ovid, Tibulus, Virgil and Horace; and in roman painting and sculpture from the late Republic to the Augustan Age; observing the rhetorical and poetical precepts of gender and verisimilitude and, specially, the commonplaces employed by the artifices for the construction of this character. This study presupposes the search for some concepts related to these arts in the treatises of Quitilian, Horace, Cicero, Aristotle, Vitruvius and Pliny, the Elder, in order to use them as tools for the discussion. | |
