Abstract

For several centuries the mentally ill and those who somehow violated the rules were placed on the margins of society through mechanisms of exclusion and enclosure in places such as prisons and houses of correction. Such institutions were formed in a tank of deviant norms. These segregating institutions were based on the use of forced labor as a form of divine condemnation or as a moral reeducation. It is observed that, despite the innovations in the use of labor in the field of psychiatry, this has always had the connotation therapy. However, with the deinstitutionalization movement came the Italian debate on the right to work for profitable understood as a tool that promotes self-assertion, and raises the possibility of an exchange network, reduces the stigma attached to mental illness and, especially, held outside the walls of the asylum. Among the advances resulting from the process of Psychiatric Reform in Brazil in 2004, was inaugurated a partnership between the Technical Department of Mental Health Department of Health and the National Solidarity Economy Ministry of Labor and Employment with the aim of promoting the experiences of income generation in the area of mental health. It is considered important reflections on the rehabilitation and reconstruction work of the identity of a worker's mental patients as potential mechanisms for the promotion of social rehabilitation of them. This research project aims to contribute towards this, since it seeks to investigate the value of work for users of mental health services participating in income generating projects linked and not linked to the movement of solidarity economy.
