Abstract

MODELICA consists of a relatively new and open source multi-domain language simulation. It presents promising for modeling transients in power systems because it´s adequate for description of physical systems in a convenient way from algebraic, differential and discrete equations. This project aims to evaluate the language MODELICA for the development of simulations involving models of power transmission lines. The objective of this project is to investigate the advantages of object-oriented language called MODELICA for simulation of electromagnetic transients in power systems. The modeling features available in the MODELICA language suggests a efficient representation of electrical systems and has been applied to model both discrete and continuous systems. Furthermore, the ability to interface the models with models built using Matlab / Simulink will be investigated. The major advantage of developing simulations of electromagnetic transients in power systems using MODELICA is the fact this language is an open source language. The interface to be implemented using the MODELICA language should allow displaying charts, parameter changes and components optimizations.
