Abstract

Arcobacter genus is formed at this moment for nine species and belongs to Campylobacteriaceae famly. A. butzleri, A. cryaerophilus and A. skirrowii are related to human and livestock animals' infections, and are the most studied of genus. Reports of this agent in animal products have been done mainly in poultry; however, this research group isolated in a previous study a high frequency of agent in swine carcasses from Brazil. The goals of this project are characterize Arcobacter spp. from pigs slaughtered in Sao Paulo State, about resistance antimicrobial profile, characterize genotypic profiles through PFGE and amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP). The effect of different Arcobacter species in VERO cells lineages will be also evaluated. Data obtained will bring an important contribution genetic and virulence characteristics of this agent that have been frequently isolated from animal origin products.
