Abstract

Migraine is characterized by an idiopathic chronic headache which could be classified in subtypes. There are reports in the literature about the association between migraine and Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) and there are few reports about the association between posture changes and migraine. However, we could not verify in the literature consulted studies about difference in the static body posture changes in migraine patients with or without TMD. In this way, the aim of the present work will be assess static body posture changes by the use of postural photographic records in women with migraine and with or without TMD. We will evaluate three groups of patients (18 to 50 years old), each group with 22 volunteers. The groups will be consisted of patients with migraine and TMD, patients with migraine without TMD and a control group without migraine and TMD. The patients with migraine will be diagnosed according to the International Classification of Headache Disorders (IHS, 2004) and the presence of TMD according to the Research Diagnostic Criteria for TMD (RDC/TMD). The postural records to analyze the static body posture will be measured by digital photography and by the use of anatomic landmarks that will be labeled with 1cm2 adhesive stickers to which will be attached pointless pins with a 0.5-cm2 spherical tip. The records will be posterior analyzed by photographic software designed to quantify postural changes (ALCimagem, version 2.1). The results of the present work will be compared and correlated for the three groups (p£0.05). We hope that the present study brings new informations to improve the physiotherapist evaluation and treatment of the migraine patients with or without TMD, since the association of both conditions could increase the number and severity of postural changes in those patients and it could contribute to functional impairment in quality of life.
