This research project proposes a study of the "Rebellion of 1952" at the Correctional Institute of Anchieta Island, in Ubatuba (Brazil). Its general objective is to reconstruct the social and political context of this "critical event" (Das, 1995), in view of their protagonists. Through archival research and study of the trajectories of prisoners that staged the event, intended to describe and analyze: I) contexts and structuring of the Correctional Institute of Anchieta Island, especially between 1942-1955; II) social and political relationships that was developed between prisoners, officials of the Department of Public Security, Department of Justice officials and residents of the island III) the steps of preparation, planning and execution the rebellion. The analysis intends to propose hypotheses regarding the possible consequences of that rebellion for the prison system in São Paulo. (AU)
