Abstract

The project's aim is to continue a field work, initiated in 2009, focused on transnational marriages connected to migratory processes towards Spain. The research universe is integrated by Brazilian women and men of different social backgrounds and racial categories, from different States and occupied in diverse labor sectors in Spain, including the sex industry and by Spanish men and women married with Brazilian citizens. The main objectives are: a) to analyze the connections between sex markets, broadly considered, and marriage markets; b) to consider the imbrications among economic practices, affective relationships and sex; c) to analyze how gender, articulated with other differentiations, permeates these relationships; d) to consider the effects of those differences in the couples' relationships, in the migrants insertions in the migratory contexts, in the organization of migratory networks and in the identity reconfigurations of the women and men involved. The methodology includes analyzing secondary sources, an ethnographic approach in leisure and work places and in the homes of those Brazilian migrants in Barcelona and Antequera, in depth interviews with the members of those couples and with key persons working in NGOs and in governmental agencies that support migrants and workers in the sex industry. Key words: gender, migration, marriage, sex markets, Spain (AU)
