Abstract The main objective of the project is to introduce the student to the basic concepts of non-linear phenomena and the algebraic and geometrical techniques used in such area of research. We shall start with the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam problem and the developments that followed from it. Then we shall study the methods of integrable field theories and solitons like the Lax-Zakharov-Shabat equation. At the same time the student will be studying representation theory of Lie groups and Lie algebras. | |
