Abstract

Background: The fabrication of complete dentures traditionally involves a series of complex technical procedures. However, simplified methods could be as effective as conventional ones, despite the lower cost of time and resources. Objectives: To compare patient satisfaction, oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and denture quality after the fabrication of complete dentures with a simplified or conventional method. Methods: A sample of edentulous patients who requested treatment by maxillary and mandibular complete denture in a public dental clinic will be randomly divided into two groups. Group S will receive new dentures fabricated by a simplified method, whereas Group C will received new dentures according to a conventional method. Questionnaires will be used to assess and denture satisfaction and OHRQoL, 3 and 6 months after treatment. Denture quality will be assessed through clinical observation of functional characteristics like free way space, occlusion, retention and stability. At least 20 participants per group will be comprised in this trial and comparison between groups will be conducted by appropriate tests (±=0,05).
