This research project considers the development of a model based on linear programming to solve the long term hydrothermal operation planning in a competitive electricity market. The model should find a policy for optimal operation of power plants and hydropower plants, with their respective basins, in a certain period of time considering the transmission lines, multiple bars, different levels of load and multiple reservoirs. We intend to represent the randomness of hydrology using various scenarios of hydrology. The model is programmed using the programming language AMPL in order to obtain anopen source model so it can be modified and extended by any other users. The solution of the linear optimization problems will be obtained using a commercial solver.
