The possibilities of reflection on the cultural industry.

Abstract

When establishing a critical insight as to the formation of individuals in the current society, it can be noticed that the educational objectives that should be of allowing and developing experiences from an established rational appropriation of culture has become fragile, which contributes to semi-formation of individuals. As a direct consequence of this fragility, barbarousness can be seen in our society. If formation is the interiorization of culture, a semi-formation would be the interiorization of semi-culture. In this sense, critic and reflection of the cultural industry is important as it forms individuals. However, it is experience that enables a return to the de-barbarousness. Therefore, the present project intends to discuss, starting from a deep analysis and profound comprehension of the current contradictions as to the concept of the cultural industry, the possibilities of reflection and emancipation with such a cultural process/formation. Hence, to enhance the analysis, discussions of theories idealized by theorists from the Frankfurt School will be taken into consideration as, Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer, whose theories discourse about culture, the ideology of the cultural industry as well as the industrial society. The contradictions will be illustrated by means of "samba" projects, as the "Comunidade Samba da Vela", which aims to rescue the culture and citizenship by means of music.
