Endometritis is a condition that involves inflammation of the uterine endometrium and resulting in sub-fertility in mares, a better understanding of the interactions between seminal plasma and endometrium may be useful in developing therapies to control the inflammatory reaction. Forty stallions will be used to verify and quantify the presence of seminal plasma cathelicidins using ELISA test. After the identification of two stallions that express the highest and lowest amount of cathelicidins their chemotactic action will be evaluated by intrauterine infusion of seminal plasma to provide the highest and lowest expression of cathelicidins. Will be used 10 mares resistant and 10 susceptible to persistent post-breeding induced endometritis during three consecutive estrous cycles, the second cycle "rest" and randomly in the first and third cycles, will be held uterine infusions of seminal plasma selected to measure the differences between inflammatory responses by the expression of uterine cathelicidins and interleukins, neutrophil migration and fluid accumulated on uterine lumen. From these results, with determination of seminal plasma responsible for the efficient resolution of the inflammatory process, this will be added to the semen at the time of artificial insemination of 20 mares classified as susceptible in two consecutive estrous cycles, the first cycle without addition of seminal plasma and the second cycle to semen with the addition of seminal plasma. The embryo collection will be held on the eighth day after ovulation and the result is considered positive when the embryo recovery.
