Abstract

NMR is one of the most used techniques to analyze chemical and biological samples. It is one of the main tools to analyze metabolic profile (metabolomics) both in vitro and in vivo. In this project, NMR spectroscopy in high resolution will be used to the qualitative and quantitative analysis of breast cancer cellular lineages MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 and prostate cancer cells DU-145, treated with conjugated linoleic acid. CLA, a fatty acid found in ruminant animals meat, has benefic potential effects in human health, among them a possible action against some cancer types. Tumor cells will be also analyzed with spectroscopy in infrared zone, with Fourier Transform.Metabolic changes among health, tumor and CLA treated cells will be analyzed to verify possible effects caused by this fatty acid. Besides this research, CLA influences in angiogenic activity as well as changes occurred during the apoptosis process is intended to be analyzed.
