This project aims to develop and evaluate new methods for heart rate signal analysis based on non-extensive statistics. Non-extensive statistics is a new theory from statistical mechanics that appears more suitable for systems with long-term memory, long-range interaction or multi-fractal phase space. A previous study has explored the basis of non-extensive entropy rates applied to heart rate variability, indicating that this formulation can provide information about the dynamics of fluctuation of the heartbeat. This project proposes a study on a non-extensive multiscale entropy and on a nonlinear spectral analysis which is consistent with the non-extensive statistics. With this study we have the perspective to better understand the behavior of heart rate variability in terms of non-extensive statistical, besides investigating the potential of these statistical tools to provide specific diseases.
