Abstract

This Project aims to the development of a water steam plasma torch and exploratory investigations on the principle of plasma reform for the production of synthesis gas (H2 e CO) from products generated from the gasification of waste oil industry, such as bottom sludge tank and distillations residues of crude oil. These products include tar (condensable hydrocarbons, like furans, phenols), not condensable hydrocarbons like methane, ethane and also dioxins. The plasma reformers have been considered as alternative economic and environment friendly for obtaining fuel gases and other products from the gasification of organic inputs. Because they offer several advances over conventional technologies, including: capability of plasma in high-power drive for the process, flexibility in choosing the type of material to be gasified, fast response time, simple construction materials, high efficiency of conversion, and they can operate in a variety of settings selective chemical process, including the partial oxidation, steam reform and pyrolyse (with low emission of CO2). The focus of the works will be in thermal plasma process using a steam plasma torch. This device will be integrated into a gasification system at laboratory scale aimed at tests and possible innovations in the plasma gasification system. The effectiveness of the plasma gasification should be finally evaluated for the effect of gas injection, like air, water steam, ethanol steam and oxygen, gauging the nature of the reactions, at the same time that monitoring the discharges parameters to optimize a selective of the reactions and the conversion efficiency of compounds of high molecular weigh in hydrogen an carbon monoxide. As principal goal of the proposal, we aim to the obtaining of the appropriate clean combustive gas to be driven to a combustion system for and use of his heat power, as a example, in a gas turbine to generate electricity.
