The objective of this project is to validate the numerical model used in the roll waves instabilities evolution. This phenomenon is present in mudflows, industrial ducts, blood flow, and others. Therefore, the observation and data acquisition of these instabilities, present in certain Newtonian and non-Newtonian flows, should be subject of interest. The apparatus that will be used in the tests is described and consists of a inclined ramp, interference-free, which simulate a channel with a recirculation system, controlled and well-characterized flows (fluid, geometry, dynamics), i.e, a controlled system that supports the measure, with precision, of the intrinsic characteristics of these instabilities.The results from these tests will be used for further comparison with numerical results obtained from the implementation of the mathematical model proposed by Ferreira (2007), based on Cauchy equations and rheological model of Herschel-Bulkley as viscous part of the stress tensor. The numerical implementation, already well improved, has been developed in MATLAB/Simulink which shows an effective tool in solving dynamic systems, and provide a unique interactivity of the user with the problem through logical blocks.
