Abstract This master's project has as main aims the mapping and the analysis of external vocalic sandhi processes among Afonso's X, the Wise Cantigas de Santa Maria - Galician Portuguese religious cantigas (13th century). The processes which happen through word junction, that constitute elision, diphthongization, crasis (MASSINI-CAGLIARI, 2005) and hiatus for Archaic Portuguese, will be considered as object of study. Through this work and from a non-explored corpus (especially as for linguistic themes - Snow, 1987, p. 478-480; Massini-Cagliari, 2005, p.24-26), it is inteded to contribute to deeper knowledge of Portuguese prosody history in the period of its recognition as an independent language of latin. Therefore, the clarification of some characteristcs from the linguistic past of portuguese will be able to clarify facts from its present structure. | |
