Abstract

The hydroalcoholic steams crude extract of Styrax camporum Pohl (Styracaceae) is commonly employed in the folk medicine in the treatment of gastroduodenal diseases, which was confirmed by research realized in vivo. Chemistry studies revealed the accumulation of lignans and triterpenes. Where, benzofuranic lignans, homoegonol e egonol, showed mainly antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities, supporting the importance of this species investigation. This project intents to realize the chemistry study of S. camporum bioguide by the antiinflammatory activity, employing the in vitro cyclooxygenase inhibitory assay. Therefore, the principal goal of this proposal will be identify natural compounds with cyclooxygenase inhibitory activity, enzyme direct correlated to the anti-inflammatory process, and also to contribute to the project: Phytochemistry study and evaluation of mutagenicity, antimutagenicity and cyclooxygenase inhibitory activity from Styrax (Styracaceae). (Process no 2008/10283-1), to the human resource formation, and to the consolidation of the UNIFRAN M.D.-Ph.D. Program in Science (Capes, score 4).
