Abstract

Electronic polymeric materials has been applied with success in electronic and optoelectronic devices as, for example, in Light-Emitting Diodes (OLEDs), photovoltaics (OPVs), and thin-layer transistors (OTFTs). This area is an important branch of the contemporaneous Nanotechnology, and for a PhD Thesis it opens the possibility in applying different experimental methodologies associated with theoretical modeling. In addition, this new technology is close to the Flexible Electronics, mainly using the InkJet deposition process. This project is focused on the fabrication and study of an organic CMOS circuit. This device is basically a combination of two OTFT connected in series, one as a p-semiconductor and the other as n-semiconductor. To overcome the difficulty in having n-type conjugated polymers, which usually are hole-conductors, we can use phthalocyanine, which is a n-type macrocyclic organic system an alternating nitrogen atom-carbon atom ring structure. Then, we propose to fabricate a CMOS with polythiophene derivatives and phthalocyanine, and as alternative active layers, a mixture of polythiophenes with poly(ehylene oxide) complexed with Lithium salt. Other polymers, as poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), will be also used as alternative active layers. This CMOS will be printed in rigid and flexible substrates by InkJet process, and a previous detailed study of the microfluidic of the printing process will be carried out.
