Abstract

Given the need to develop new technologies that maximize the welfare of animals, mainly for the creations that the final product, the meat is exported, this study aims to assess the welfare of lots of different sizes (25, 50, 75 animals) and density (0.7 m2, 0.8 m2 and 0.9 m2) from weaning to slaughter, raised in the "wean to finish." Are also monitored the thermal environment (temperature, humidity and ventilation) and the index is calculated from temperature and humidity, the ambient air (gases - NH3, H2S, CO and CO2), the acoustic environment, the behavioral variables, the monitoring of temperature of the skin surface, the levels of salivary cortisol and performance of animals (initial and final weight, weight gain in the period, average daily weight gain and feed conversion). Thus, it is necessary the knowledge involved in maintaining the welfare of pigs and of creating "wean to finish" that has become an alternative to creating more rentosa industrial pig.
