Galipeinae (Galipeeae, Rutoideae) is the most diverse tribe of Rutaceae in Neotropical region. However recent molecular phylogenetic studies have demonstrated that this subtribe is not monophyletic. The circumscription of Galipeinae species are based mainly in floral traits, such as floral tube symmetry, varying from actinomorphic to markedly zygomophic, staminodes presence, anthers basifix and usually appendaged, and the joining of the stamens inter se and to the corolla. These traits vary both qualitatively and quantitatively. Yet, few studies have been made on the floral morphoanatomy of Galipeinae and these are not sufficient to comprehend the floral diversity of the group. In this context, the present work aim to study the floral morphoanatomy of Galipeinae representatives, to survey characteres that will be optimized (mapped) on the most recent molecular phylogeny available for the group. By this, it is intended to evaluate the evolution of floral features in the light of phylogeny and its implications for the systematics of the group. Moreover it is aimed to perform a study of floral biology of three species of Galipeinae, with distinct floral morphologies, seeking to study the relationship of floral traits with pollination systems, as well as discuss the adaptive significance of these floral features. This is important to understand factors that may have exerted selective pressure on the morphogenesis of the reproductive organs, acting on the floral evolution of the group. (AU)
