Situations of structural imbalance such as dentofacial deformities may be related to temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD), involving the masticatory muscles, the temporomandibular joint and associated structures. Thus it is necessary to understand the impact of TMD in physiology of the stomatognathic system for individuals with such deformities. The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) in the bite force and electromyographic activity of masticatory muscles in subjects with dentofacial deformities. It will be evaluated 30 young adults with skeletal malocclusion orthodontic treatment, with ages ranging between 18 and 40 years. A control group will be formed with subjects without dentofacial deformities matched according with sex and age with the study group. TMD anamnestic questionnaire and protocol for examination of the RDC / TMD will be used to verify and classify the degree and type of TMD and the electromyographic exam will be used to evaluate isometric maximum voluntary contraction (clenching) of the muscles of the jaw elevators (masseter and temporal bilateral), while will be registered the bite force, using the EMG System Brazil equipment. The results will be tabulated and analyzed from the statistical sense.
