Abstract

The results presented by the laboratories of the Rede Brasileira de Laboratórios de Controle da Qualidade do Leite (RBQL) showed that the quality of the Brazilian milk needs to improve in many aspects. Recovery programs for quality stand out as one of the main tools helping to solve this problem. A small number of milk processing companies have already adopted the system of valuation for quality and uses one a four monthly samples to classify its producers. However, depending on the mathematical method used by industry to classify the producer it can results that do not consistently identify which classification the producer are paying more or less than you should. Given the normal variation in the quality of milk, there is therefore necessary to use methods that will ensure the quality of the estimate from the samples collected. Research in Europe and the United States show that the statistical process control (SPC), a set of tools developed to monitor and predict behavior of industrial processes, can be used in dairy production systems. Among the tools used by the SPC, the capability index (Cpk) was an efficient method to identify herds able to maintain stable somatic cell counts in accordance with the standards established by the inspectors. Given the above, the purpose of this study is to verify the application of statistical process control to enhance the milk.
