Study of composites of hard and soft magnetic materials produced using the gas aggregation methodology

Abstract

The primary goal of this new project is to perform a detailed investigation of dynamic hysteresis loops in magnetic nanoparticles. This is of practical interest in view of the potential for applications that these materials have as, for instance, in magnetic recording media or magneto-hyperthermia treatments. Our approach is based on Brown's stochastic model which allows thermal fluctuations to be included in the simulations. This is of paramount importance in this case due to the superparamagnetic effects observed in magnetic nanoparticles. We have developed a efficient implementation of this model which resulted in fast computation timess. Consequently, this allows us to investigate a broad range of interesting experimental conditions. Special attention was given to the loop dependence on temperature and field-sweeping frequency. Already considerable progress has been made in parallel with the former project. In fact, a paper containing initial results has already been accepted for publication. We believe that these results will contribute in a relevant way to the community's current understanding of this important area in magnetism.
