Abstract

This project aims to study the photosensitization of model membranes interacting with the protein cytochrome c. The models used are unilamellar lipid vesicles (LUVs) and Langmuir monolayers. Both will be in contact with the photosensitizer methylene blue (MB) in the solution that contains the LUV or subphase in Langmuir monolayers. Further, we will study lipid membranes composed of mixtures of 1,2-diolil-sn-glycerol-3-phosphatidylcholine (DOPC) and cardiolipin (CL) at physiological pH and temperature, in order to mimic the inner membrane of mitochondria. In this context, we can contribute in the assessment of one of the possible targets of cell death by apoptosis by photosensitization of lipid membranes. (AU)
