Abstract

This research project addresses the challenge of designing, developing and putting into operation a context-aware and feedback-based solution for the handover management in future wireless networks environments, exploring local (opportunistic connections) and global (Internet) connectivity in order to keep the mobile user Always Best Connected (ABC). We start with a hypothesis that the management of the process of handover (exchange network) should be more flexible with active participation of mobile users and can explore, in an intelligent manner, the resources available in a particular network context. We also believe that the adoption of the paradigm PSN will improve the mobile users experience and will enable a new set of applications which could make use of human behavior to offer differentiated services. In addition, we believe that the past experiences (feedback), the user or others on the same network environment can be shared to improve the decision making process to choose the next access point. At first, we want to adopt the premises of middleware SOHand (Service Oriented Handover Management) and Haggle architecture to guide the beginning of research and at the end, we hope to contribute to these two projects with specifications, prototypes, scenarios and experimental results. Furthermore, we aspire to work together with the research group RMT (Remote Monitoring and Treatment Group) of the University of Twente in order to exchange experiences through the development of middleware MSP (Mobile Service Platform) that has goals congruent and complementary to our proposal. The solution validation will be conducted in real NGN scenarios, focusing on quantitative and qualitative assessment of time online and users experience during its wandering nomads in the network environment.
