The aim of this work is the study of the performance analysis of the preservative properties of short time natural durability wood, to evaluate the alterations in the physical properties, chemistry and of mechanical resistance, obtained with heat-treatment process. Wood heat-treated is produced starting from their heating in strips of temperatures below the carbonization, up to 208ºC. The advantage of using this process is that it does not generate environmental pollution, such as: contamination of soil, groundwater, rivers for leach, beyond not being difficult in getting an appropriate destiny to the residues after their useful life; these problems are presented by treated wood with conventional preservatives as CCA, CCB and Creosote. The good performance of the properties preservative of heat-treated wood is due to physical-chemical alterations occurred in its molecular structure, due to the supply of heat. The species selected for the research are Pinus and Eucalyptus from planted forests, they have low natural durability against the biological demand. Characterization tests will be evaluation of wood before and after process of thermal treatment, for determination of resistance and rigidity, permeability test to gas in body-of-proof with circular section and tests for verification of the possible chemical alterations of the wood, current of the thermal treatment process. Tests will carried out of mechanical resistance in beams with rectangular section under loading for evaluation of the behavior global of the pieces heat-treated wood with relation to the pieces not heat-treated wood. The samples will be still submitted for evaluation of the efficiency of thermal treatment process to the action of microorganism deteriorates of the wood. The work in the subject will be part of the Thematic Project "Safety of the Structures in Situation of Fire", Process FAPESP 2006/06742-5, and it will be developed at LaMEM-EESC/USP, with coordination of the advisor Dr. Carlito Calil Junior.
