Abstract Our group has been investigating the biological properties of propolis, Baccharis dracunculifolia, lemongrass and clove. Propolis has attracted researchers interest because of its several properties, such as immunomodulatory, antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, antioxidant, among others. Baccharis dracunculifolia is the main vegetal source of propolis in our region, and its therapeutical properties have been analysed. However, little is known about lemongrass and clove effects on the immune system. Thus, the goal of this work is to evaluate the immunomodulatory action of the extract and isolated compounds of: propolis (coumaric and cinnamic acids), B. dracunculifolia (caffeic acid), clove (eugenol) and lemongrass on pro-inflammatory (TNF-alfa, IL-1beta, IL-6) and anti-inflammatory (TGF-beta) cytokines production by peritoneal macrophages of BALB/c mice, in different assays in vitro. Data will help to understand the pro- or anti-inflammatory potential of these natural products and some isolated constituents. | |
