Comminution is an essential unit operation in mineral processing as it affects both economical and technical performances of industrial circuits. Due to the extremely high energy consumption, marginal increases in process efficiency usually represent significant reductions in operating costs, as well in capital expenditures.New technologies and design methods have been progressively incorporated to grinding circuits, thus resulting in explotation of ore deposits which were considered non-economical a decade ago. Particularly in Brazil mathematical modeling has reached a maturity both in applications such as circuit optimization and design of new installations. However, the peculiar characteristics of most Brazilian ores still remain a challenge to achieve the full potential of such a technology. Accordingly, high weathered ores generally have a significant part of valuable minerals in the fine or ultra-fine fraction.The main objective of this project is to develop a method to adapt the technology of grinding simulation to the particularities of Brazilian ores.The scope of the project includes the development of the method in laboratory scale followed by validation based on surveys conducted in the industrial circuit of iron ore of Carajas.
