Phase-contrast radiography applications to in vitro mammography

Abstract

This research project aims to develop and implement phase contrast radiography using diffraction enhanced imaging (DEI) applied to in vitro mammography to identify early appearances of cancer tumors by an improved x-ray imaging technique. The project involves a collaboration with the medical researchers from UNICAMP. The measurements will be implemented in conventional x-ray laboratories and synchrotron radiation sources in Campinas. One specific aim is to identify the potential of DEI to in vitro mammography and contribute in the identification of normal to malignant breast tissues by high resolution images and help in an initial phase to chirurgical mastology procedures of breast tumors.
