Biomaterials Nanocomposites of Polyamide 6 and Nanoparticles trimetaphosphate Decorated with Silver Nanoparticles for Dental Mineralization

Abstract

Brazilian elderly population is growing and to ensure their access to health has become a great challenge. The use of new nanocomposite materials for the manufacture of prosthetic devices, matrices for filling of bone defects, matrices for protection of the pulp tissue of teeth and dentinal tubules exposed can contribute significantly to the quality of life of this population. The objective of this project is synthesis, characterization and development of new nanocomposite materials obtained by incorporation of sodium trimetaphosphate nanoparticles decorated with silver nanoparticles in polyamide-6 polymeric matrix. The nanoparticles will be synthesized with strict control of size and shape, and their effect on the thermo-mechanical properties of the nanocomposites will be evaluated per their possible use in bone tissue engineering. The polymer-nanoparticle interface will be evaluated by solid-state 13C NMR (MAS and CP/MAS) and transmission electron microscopy. Regarding antimicrobial activity the cellular viability assay and inhibition halo tests will be determined. The biocompatibility evaluation will also be performed using alamar blue assay. It is expected with this project to develop a new nanocomposite material with potential mineralization action showing equal to or greater characteristics than polyamide (6) used as a scaffold for bone tissue engineering and dentine.
