Non woven carbon nanotube composite fiber electrodes for electrochemical energy conversion/storage devices


This proposal presents new co-operation between the groups of Profs. Ravi Silva (University of Surrey) & Jose Mauricio Rosolens (University of São Paulo), which follows from Prof. Rosolen's sabbaticalleave at Surrey in 2005, and Prof. Silva's visit to Prof. Rosolen's laboratory in 2015. Advanced physical, chemical, and electrochemical techniques will be employed to develop electroactive non-woven carbon nanostructures for electrochemical energy conversion/storage devices, with a particular emphasis on Li, Na intercalation and supercapacitors. Specific electroactive non-woven carbon nanotube (CNTs) composites containing mainly carbon nanostructures (CNs), oxides and/or metais will be obtained using electrospinning, used to enhance secondary batteries/supercapacitors for use in mobile & stationary applications. Both groups have expertise in carbon nanostructures (production and technological applications of carbon nanotubes, graphene, graphene oxide and their derived composites). Particularly, the Surrey group has lately gained prominence in several technological applications where the electronic and structural properties of carbon nanostructures are explored, although not in the electrochemical area (batteries/supercapacitors) where the Brasilian group has worked since 1998. Recently, the Surrey group has developed electrospun non-woven composite materiais, which will be employed by the Brasilian group to develop batery electrodes and supercapacitors.
