Influence of macro and micro geometry of new models of mini-implants in the process of osseointegration: in vivo study in rabbits

Abstract

Technological advances in implantology has made possible the frequent introduction of new designs and surface treatments in the dental market. However, the lack of a sequential and broad approach in the conception of a new implant project makes it difficult to understand the contribution of the variables related to it, in bone behavior in the short and long term. Therefore, the objective of the present study will be to evaluate in vivo the correlative influence of macro and micro design in the process of osseointegration through new models of mini-implants. 108 mini-implants in Ti-6Al-4V going to divide into three groups (n=36): G1- Intralock® commercial model; G2 - threaded experimental model; G3 - helical experimental model. The surface treatment of the experimental implants will consist of an acid attack (85% H3PO4), follow by alkaline treatment (NaOH) and the physical-chemical characterization of the implants performed by means of morphological analysis with a scanning electron microscope (SEM), of the chemical composition, via X-ray dispersive energy spectroscopy (EDS), roughness, by confocal laser microscopy and contact angle (wettability), through a goniometer. For the in vivo study, 18 male rabbits will be allocated, in which the 108 mini-implants will be install, three in each tibia. For biomechanical evaluation, the insertion torque going to measure by means of an analogical torque wrench. Micro-tomographic (micro-CT), histological, histomorphometric and immunohistochemical analyzes will be performe after the euthanasia of the animals at 30, 60 and 90 postoperative days. Quantitative data will be submit to appropriate statistical analysis with significance level of 5%. (AU)
