Eugenia punicifolia and E. aurata (Myrtaceae) are traditional medicinal plants of the Brazilian Cerrado. From a collaborative work, our group published the antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory and gastroprotective activities from E. punicifolia hydroethanolic extracts (EtOH: 70% v / v H2O). Another work done in collaboration, from the same leaf extract, showed that E. punicifolia and E. aurata inhibited the inflammatory process by reducing adhesion and neutrophil degranulation. In order to continue the evaluation of their biological potentialities it will be carried, from the hydroethanolic extracts, ethyl acetate and methanol; the bioassays to evaluate the antioxidant capacity against DPPH; antiproliferative activity against MCF-7 (breast), NCI-H460 (lung) and U-251 (glioma, CNS); (ATCC 10231); MIC (Minimum Inhibitory concentration) for the bacteria Enterococcus faecium (ATCCT 5079, grain +), Enterococcus hirae (ATCC 10541, grain +), Escherichia coli (ATCC 11775, grain), Salmonella choleraesuis (ATCC 10708) and the evaluation of phytotoxic (allelopathic) activity for the germination and post - germination of cucumber seeds (Cucumis sativus). It will be done a successive extraction with hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol from E. punicifolia and E. aurata leaves, followed by ESI-MS (electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry) analysis. Quantification of the major compounds by HPLC-DAD from all extracts will be performed including hydroethanols extracts. These bioassays plus characterization will be made to establish a correlation between the phenolic compounds found in those extracts and the biological activities cited above. (AU)
