Prospecting of Myxozoa of the Malacosporea class in the Amazon

Abstract

Dr. Beth Okamura is researcher at the Department of Life Sciences at the Natural History Museum in London.The researcher focuses on ecology, biology and development of Cnidarians parasite of the Subphylum Myxozoa, mainly those of the Class Malacosporea, which present a complex biological cycle, with bryozoans and freshwater fish acting as invertebrate and vertebrate hosts, respectively. During her visit to Brazil, Dr. Okamura will participate, together with researchers and graduate students, in the collection and analysis of bryozoans and freshwater fish, for the study of Myxozoa (Malacosporea).The researcher will also lecture at UNIFESP-Diadema and at the Federal University of Western Pará-UFOPA, which is a partner Institution in the development of this project.
