Territory, financial capital and agriculture: land control by financial capital in Matopiba region

The main objective of the research is to analyze how the process of globalization and financialization of capital introduces a new pace of expansion and new forms of territorial agricultural use. Therefore, this research seeks to analyze the forms of action and strategies of accumulation of agricultural enterprises controlled by institutional investors in the Matopiba region. In order to understand and qualify the strategies of these companies, the research has two main stages: a) identification and construction of a typology of the financial agents (institutional investors) controlling the agricultural companies operating in the region; B) an examination of the strategies of land accumulation, especially the use of information technology for the appropriation of different types of land rent, particularly the attempt to transform gross lands into highly productive lands, with their consequent commercialization.
