Sensors based on composites of conducting polymers and graphene aiming the determination of endocrine disruptor substances in marine environment

Abstract

There is a growing interest in monitoring endocrine disrupting substances, which are environmental contaminants from industrial and human waste, which interfere with the endocrine systems of humans and other species. Among these, we can highlight substances such as pesticides and natural or synthetic hormones (drugs). Electrochemical methods have a great potential for the development of environmental sensors, because in general are fast, with low solvent consumption, require little or no sample preparation and can be portable allowing the determination of these substances in situ. Several works have been developed in to prepare composites of conducting polymers and graphene for various applications. Specifically in the development of sensors, these composites materials exhibit a synergistic effect by the increases of sensitivity and selectivity. However, the development of non-enzymatic sensors based on these composite materials, aiming the determination of endocrine disruptors commonly found marine environments, such as antifouling pesticides and hormones, remains virtually unexplored. Thus, the tenderer intends to use its experience in the prepare of nanostructured films based on composites of conducting polymers, as well as the electroanalysis of pesticides and pharmaceuticals and, in this project, to produce and characterize electrodes modified with nanostructured films based on composites of graphene and the conducting polymers polyaniline and polypyrrole. The films will be produced by the methods of casting, self-assembly and inkjet printing, as well will be evaluated aiming the determination of endocrine disruptor substances which are common contaminants in marine environments such as the antifouling pesticides chlorothalonil and Diuron as well as the hormones estriol, 17±-ethinylestradiol e estrone.
