Developing and Spreading Methods and Tools for Digital Forensics

Abstract

Digital Forensics is a Computer Science field that develops methods and tools to perform digital documents analysis and validation, specially over medias as videos, images, audios and texts. These kinds of methods are essential for law enforcement groups as Brazilian Federal Police since the number of these medias presented as evidences in court is exponentially growing. At the same time, much research and development is done in academia and published over scientific journals but with very few penetration in the daily activities of the police investigative staff, requiring a lot of effort to convey the techniques presented on the scientific texts to their hands. This research project has the main goal of developing a software tool from research, comparison and improvement of literature methods that deals with Digital Forensics problems (for example fake image detection, computer generated images detection, and detection of biometrics systems attacks. Using advanced approaches based on Digital Image Processing, Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition (including Deep Learning), this project aims at improving and spreading digital forensics methods to the people that need them in their daily tasks. As final expected result of this project, we intend to produce a forensic tool to spread and simplify the use of Digital Forensics approaches by interested groups. (AU)
