Abstract

The machining is characterized as one of the most important manufacturing processes in industry and research in this area bring great contribution to the reduction of costs. The market is increasingly demanding and increasingly seek higher productivity, to be met the demands of industries such as automotive, aeronautics and others. Detailed knowledge of the process of chip formation is also required to understand the accuracy and condition of the machined surface of the desired component. These characteristics are unavoidably impaired to some extent, since the chip is formed by fracture due to the high degree of shear deformation. The researchers have sought alternative ways and cheap to improve the performance of cutting tools through the introduction of new materials that can withstand the severe conditions of temperatures and stresses on the cutting edge during machining. Once all materials for tool lose their hardness at high cutting conditions there is a real need to develop new technologies that minimize the temperature generated in the tool-workpiece and tool-chip interfaces. The objective of this work is to optimize the superalloys (Inconel 718 and 625) turning and titanium (Ti-6Al-4V) milling through the study of chip formation, aided by the analysis of surface roughness, form defects, tool wear and variation in microhardness chips. Will be used different strategies for implementation of cutting fluid (fluid abundant MQL, etc.) And will test various tools (cemented carbide and ceramics) to identify the best performances. Among the tools will be tested mainly those developed by the research group, based on Al2O3, with a view to verify its performance and also compare it to that of the commercial tools, with the purpose of generating reduction of tool costs, and to promote the optimization of manufacturing processes with superalloys.
