Dispensing of medicines and integration of clinical records at the point of care of the patient

Abstract

The field of Healthcare concentrates a large need of technology. Medical technology companies aim at developing products that may contribute to cost savings while adding safety and quality of life to the patients. Recent advances in mobile technology and associated applications and the expansion of the electronic sensors industry gave a new dimension to the care and treatment of patients. This is especially true regarding the measurement and recording of vital signals and medical images and their real time visualization and assessment on the bed side, usually through the use of an electronic medical record. This new possibility represents a change of paradigm in healthcare .In this scenario, the innovation expected from this research is based on the development of an electronic platform that offers tools to obtain real time information and to deliver assistance in the point of care. The platform consists of four independent and communicating modules namely: 1) bed interface with multiple functionalities including vital signs expanding the concept of a bed as we know it, 2) electronic medical record, 3) mobile medication unit and 4) a system for integration of the individual modules to the hospital managing system.
