Study of limiting factors to physical exercise and adjunct effects to rehabilitation on cardiorespiratory disease: a multicentre approach

Abstract

This proposal comes up for a thematic project involving 2 subprojects of interdependent research and 15 researchers, 6 associate research, 5 international researchers and 3 national researchers from other institutions. In this theme, we propose as the original study a patient follow-up study with COPD, CHF and its coexistence, assessing the impact on morbidity and disability. Also we will investigate prognostic markers from cardiopulmonary exercise testing, through an international partnership, the Consortium Friends, in the context of these diseases and its coexistence. The mechanistic investigation of the limiting factors to exercise on cardiorespiratory function and diaphragmatic, peripheral muscle oxygenation and brain will be important for the integrated understanding of the systems to chronic cardiorespiratory dysfunction in these patients, constituting an important physiological study. We also propose as unpublished essay, the assessment of functional capacity through simple field tests, but on a prototype developed in our institution as well as its construction, expanding its clinical use. In the research line on the adjunct effects of rehabilitation in chronic cardiorespiratory diseases, we propose as original trial, a randomized study evaluating the effects of non-invasive ventilation in patients with CHF + COPD in the chronic phase as well as during exacerbations in different clinical and cardiovascular outcomes. For this, we gathered groups of notorious researchers know to help us in this great proposal, which will surely bring great impact in the scientific field. (AU)
