Abstract

Future Electrical Distribution System (EDS) should be prepared to successfully integrate distributed generation (e.g. photo-voltaic generation) as well as to meet the demand growth. In this context, the expansion of the EDS must to be planned in order to reduce the construction cost of substations and circuits together with the corresponding operation cost. In addition, a suitable operation of the EDS should be guaranteed, so that equipment operational limits and quality criteria are satisfied. Therefore, control devices (e.g., voltage regulators, capacitor banks, and energy storage systems) as well as photo-voltaic systems should be coordinated in the future operation of the EDS.Optimization models for the planning of the expansion and operation of EDSs will be developed in this research project considering technical and economic criteria. The development of these optimization models should consider the network unbalance as well as the stochastic behavior of the demand and the renewable energy resources. Furthermore, the resulting methods should take into account the presence of photo-voltaic generation and energy storage devices. (AU)
