Development of Ultrasonic Transducers


This research project aims to develop ultrasonic transducers of the following types: piezocomposite for emission in air, capacitive for generating sound (in the audible range), multi-element for emission in water and solid (flexible linear array and two-dimensional rigid array. Models will be implemented to simulate the propagation of the acoustic beam of transducers in solid and liquid media for the detection of defects/objects within the investigated medium. For the validation of the transducer prototypes the following experimental measurements will be taken: bandwidth, pulse duration, directivity of the acoustic beam, electrical impedance, acoustic field, displacements (orthogonal to the radiating surface) using laser interferometer. Subsequently, acoustic fields will be measured, samples will be imaged and the results will be compared to those obtained by the models. (AU)
