Gauge theory and geometric structures in dimension 7

Abstract

The applicant will study a number of problems in the context of gauge theory in dimensions higher than 4 and the construction of special geometric structures and submanifolds. In particular, one shall address certain advances towards an analogous to Donaldson-Thomas theory for moduli spaces of generalised instantons over G2-manifolds, and the characterisation of G2-structures with 'little torsion' as harmonic sections of a 'universal bundle'. Such topics are relevant in the classification of manifolds in dimensions 6,7,8, as well as in the physics of superstrings/M-theory. (AU)
