Development of hybrid nanostructured palladium composite electrodes towards the determination of nitrosamines in cosmetics

Abstract

The project proposes the preparation of graphite / graphene oxide / palladium nanoparticles composite electrodes for the determination of nitrosamines in cosmetics. Nanostructured palladium materials have shown affinity for the electrochemical reduction of nitro groups and are presented as potential materials to be used in the detection of nitrosamines. Furthermore, when supported on graphene oxide (GO), palladium nanostructures have their chemical properties amplified, given the synergy between the support and the nanostructures. Scanning electron microscopy images, x-ray diffraction patterns and spectra in the infrared region will be used to characterize the composite formed. The electrodes prepared will be characterized by voltammetric and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques that are extremely versatile for the characterization of the electrode surface, when estimating parameters such as resistivity to load transfer, estimation of the diffusion coefficient in the film and solution, among others. Finally, both techniques mentioned above can be applied in the quantification of these nitrosamines in cosmetics by developing voltammetric and impedimetric electrochemical sensors based on the graphite / GO / palladium composite.
